The Drowning of a Witch in Broad Moonlight They say witches can’t drown But they can burn And they can bleed. Our bodies made to move in season Wilt beneath the burden of Productivity disguised as purpose. When the moon no longer controls the flow The way it controls the tide Then we Soaked and heavy Must keep treading Never waxing Never waning Never complaining. Market I ask if he needs anything, more obligation than want. He tells me to bring back lots of fruit. He likes the sweetness The brightness The way hard pips settle into spongey flesh. I am only arms and legs and bags. I tell him I can’t carry it all. He thinks I’m talking about the fruit. Juliette D'Angelo is an emerging writer from Western Australia and graduate of Writing and Literature at Deakin University.
