I don't remember the pain as much as I remember
the cavity; the endless gushing; how I had to lay pads
in my underwear d o u b l e t h i c k to soak up
or eased the cramps or stopped the tears (mostly of relief),
although spooning an electric heating pad
was at least comforting, how my body cradled it
like a baby; how the days labored by s l o w l y
