In sleep

In sleep I escape
the clutch of your charms
In sleep I can dream
and stand tall, no holds barred
In sleep I can see
With the clarity of hindsight
What life would have looked like
With you in the picture
In sleep I can imagine
The laughter and joy
Of a day spent with you and my son’s
Such stunning young boys
In sleep there is a contentedness
In the luxury of being
But now, I awake
 and the sorrow is instant
Not loud, not anguished
just a deep sense of regret
For the loss of a father
Who made life choices,
 I can never
Forget.
