It’s a fond affair
on pink-lit afternoons
when people and animals look up, unprompted
by cardinals, crows, or satellites.
No shrouded god
or patient aliens.
like their names were whispered, and while
their eyes are lifted, they notice
and linger in their looking.
It’s empty space
we might fall into,
