11/27/2023 Poetry By Isabel IngersollJohan Blomström CC
The Chime of Childhood I hear that distant bell tring like my old bike used to, My Disney princess bike with the tassels and big basket in the front I see my younger self petaling away Ringing that bell with a smile on her face I try to catch up to her To linger just a bit longer On her unabashed joy and innocence I try to reach out to her To tell her to revel in it while she can But she can’t see me She can’t heed my warnings All she can do is keep peddling off into the distance until the bell breaks, The bike becomes too small for her to peddle, She grows out of liking princesses And her smile sinks as she grows taller. Until she becomes me. Isabel Ingersoll is a Writing, Literature, and Publishing undergraduate at Emerson College. She mainly writes fiction short stories but also loves to write melancholic poetry mainly with themes surrounding girlhood, nostalgia, and isolation. Comments are closed.
