Poetry by K. Maeby

Picture
                Timo Newton-Syms CC

cast

apathy lives in
broken bone
scrape-
              pantomiming reckless hope
and burying madhouse
crucified children
               between dead end,
under ruthless palm,
the paranoid plenty
will know hunger
like a lover
and desperation like
                the fool

coping mechanism

naked, coy
and dripping with
               contagious flame
in the dark i am a
dream
 the sun bites
cruel,
                unyielding,
                                delicious
survival means more
than keeping dry
body and
                absent tongue
- you’ll know ecstasy
by name,
when
grief is swallowed
hole

to our union

in the temple
there is a lover -
in the lover,
a temple,
                and so on
intimacy fermented through
beetle worship and antiquated
                sacrifice
the body belongs to
                 flesh belongs to
some place we found waiting
in our breath
