PHOENIX RISING

They called it ugly
They called it fat
They laughed as they attacked
 
They mock and deride
Flesh and force do collide
And laughed at it when it cried
 
Now it is grown
Success did enfold
Abundance of riches untold
 
They prance and they preen
For riches received
All credit to them they perceive
 
Ever present recall
Inner child so small
Yes, it remembers it all

SOUM is an acronym for Screams of Unfettered Minds, a collective of (mostly) 3 Pasefika women who reside in  New Zealand and write together under the cloud of preferred anonymity.  Our work has been featured in indie dark poetry vines such as The Caged Raven.  SOUM writes from the unfettered corners of the mind, bringing awareness to mental health and social issues.
